Introduction to the Department of Applied Foreign Languages
The CNU Department of Applied Foreign Languages was established in 2002, with the primary goal of training personnel for careers in foreign language teaching, international trade and the leisure industry. We initially focused on English as the primary language for instruction. However, due to growing interest among young people and demand from industry, we have recently introduced a Japanese language stream as well, which provides high school graduates wishing to major in Japanese with an opportunity to develop professional skills in this field.
Our students receive intensive training in all aspects of their chosen language as well as developing professional workplace skills. We encourage and assist them to participate in internships both in Taiwan and overseas, and also offer elective courses in other foreign languages, such as Japanese, French and Spanish.
Our highly qualified and experienced faculty is comprised of eight associate professors, nine assistant professors and three lecturers, who have specialist skills in a wide range of fields, including foreign language teaching, tourism and recreation, and writing and publication. In recognition of the quality of our teaching and learning, we have consistently been awarded the highest rating in departmental evaluations conducted by the Ministry of Education.
